Nashville International Airport (BNA) is Tennessee's largest airport and one of the fastest-growing in the United States. It handled around 24.8 million passengers in 2025, and demand has risen so quickly that the airport has run back-to-back billion-dollar expansion programmes just to keep up.

BNA is also the only major U.S. airport where the soundtrack is part of the design. This is Music City, and the airport leans into it — live performances by local artists play on stages inside the terminal, and the restaurants carry names you would recognise from Broadway and the honky-tonks.

Two things to know before you fly, and they pull in opposite directions.

The good news: BNA has one central security checkpoint in a spectacular new Grand Lobby, and every concourse connects behind it. You clear security once and can walk to any gate. No trains, no shuttles between concourses, no re-screening.

The complication: Concourse A is currently closed. It is being demolished and completely rebuilt under the airport's New Horizon programme, and it is not due to reopen until July 2028. Airlines that used it have moved elsewhere, which means older maps and older advice about BNA are out of date.

Nashville International Airport (BNA) Overview

Airport Location and Layout

BNA sits about 8 miles southeast of downtown Nashville, off I-40. The drive downtown normally takes 15 to 20 minutes.

Why "BNA"? The code comes from Berry Field Nashville, the airport's original name, honouring Colonel Harry S. Berry, who administered the project in the 1930s. Locals still call it Berry Field.

Southwest is BNA's largest carrier, with Delta a major focus operation. American, United, Alaska, JetBlue, Frontier, Spirit, and Allegiant all fly here, plus international carriers including British Airways, Aer Lingus, Air Canada, Icelandair, and WestJet. BNA serves more than 100 nonstop destinations.

Understanding the BNA Airport Layout

BNA is a single terminal with gate areas branching off a central hub. The design is simple once you know the shape.

Three levels:

Level 3 — Departures. Curbside drop-off, airline ticket counters in the north and south lobbies, the Grand Lobby, and the single central security checkpoint.

Level 2 — Baggage claim, curbside pickup, the economy lot shuttle station, and the entrance to the Hilton BNA hotel.

Level 1 — Rental car counters, the WeGo bus stop, taxi and rideshare pickup, and the TSA PreCheck enrollment office.

One checkpoint, then everything opens up. The Grand Lobby on Level 3 holds a single expanded security checkpoint with up to 24 lanes, including TSA PreCheck and CLEAR. Once through, you can reach any gate on foot.

From the checkpoint, orientate yourself like this:

Turn left (north) for Concourses A and B

Turn right (south) for Concourses C and D

Straight ahead for the T Gates in the central marketplace

Allow 5 to 10 minutes to reach the furthest gates.

The one exception to walking: the C Satellite Concourse (gates C4 to C11) is reached by a free shuttle bus from near Gate C2. Everything else connects by walkway. If your gate is in the C Satellite, add 10 to 15 minutes.

And the big current caveat: Concourse A is closed for reconstruction until July 2028.

How to Navigate BNA Efficiently

Here is the simple way to read the BNA gate map and move fast:

Note your concourse letter and gate from your boarding pass.

Take I-40 to the airport and allow extra time for the Donelson Pike roadworks.

Park in Terminal Garage 1, Terminal Garage 2, or an Economy Lot.

Check in on Level 3 at the north or south ticketing lobby.

Clear the single central checkpoint in the Grand Lobby.

Turn left for B, right for C and D, or go straight ahead for the T Gates.

Match your garage to your gate: Terminal Garage 1 puts you closest to the north side (Concourses A and B), while Terminal Garage 2 serves the south side (Concourses C, D, and the T Gates) and connects to the Ground Transportation Center.

Here is what sits in each part of the airport.

The Grand Lobby

The Grand Lobby is BNA's showpiece, delivered as part of the BNA Vision programme completed in February 2024. It is a soaring, glass-heavy space with high ceilings and natural light, and it holds the airport's single security checkpoint — expanded to as many as 24 lanes.

It also has a live music stage, where local Nashville artists perform. This is not a gimmick; it is the thing visitors remember about the airport.

One important warning about the pre-security area: there is very little to eat before you clear the checkpoint. BNA has essentially one café, a convenience shop, and a flower shop landside. If you arrive early, go through security and eat on the other side — that is where all the good food is.

Concourse B

Concourse B runs north from the Grand Lobby with around 11 gates, serving Delta Air Lines and United Airlines.

The Delta Sky Club is here — fully renovated in 2023, with more than 10,000 square feet added and capacity approaching 200 seats. It is the largest premium lounge at BNA.

Concourse B also has a children's play area at its far end, with wall games and floor activities, plus a nursing room near Gate B1.

Concourse C

Concourse C is the largest and busiest concourse, running south from the Grand Lobby. It serves American Airlines and Southwest, with additional carriers in its satellite.

It splits into two parts:

The main concourse — around 18 gates, numbered C1 to C3 and C13 to C27

The C Satellite Concourse — around 8 gates, C4 to C11, reached by a free shuttle bus from near Gate C2

That satellite is the only part of BNA you cannot walk to. Allegiant and Spirit typically operate from there. If your boarding pass shows a gate between C4 and C11, budget the extra shuttle time.

The American Airlines Admirals Club is in Concourse C, up a staircase near Gate C15.

Dining here is the strongest at the airport, with Nashville names including Tootsie's Orchid Lounge, Ole Red, and Hattie B's Hot Chicken. There is a nursing room in the C Satellite near Gate C6.

Concourse D

Concourse D is BNA's newest wing, opened in 2023 and refreshed again in July 2025. It currently has around six gates (D1 to D6) and is used mainly by Southwest Airlines.

It is smaller than the others but well finished, with Minute Suites near Gate D3 — private rest suites that accept Priority Pass — a lactation room near Gate D4, and a pet relief area near Gate D2.

Concourse D is being expanded from 6 to 11 gates under the New Horizon programme, adding capacity for Southwest along with more food and retail.

The T Gates

The T Gates (T1 to T6) sit straight ahead from the security checkpoint in the central marketplace, which makes them the shortest walk in the airport.

They handle much of BNA's international flying, with carriers including British Airways, Aer Lingus, Air Canada, Icelandair, and WestJet.

Because they are steps from the Grand Lobby, this area also has the best concentration of food, shops, and amenities.

Concourse A — Closed Until 2028

Concourse A is currently closed. It is being fully demolished and reconstructed under New Horizon, the airport's $1.4 billion expansion programme.

When it reopens — targeted for July 2028 — it is planned to be BNA's largest concourse, with around 16 gates, a new and larger Admirals Club, and finishes matching the Grand Lobby aesthetic.

Until then, airlines that previously used Concourse A operate from the other concourses. If you find an older guide or map showing Concourse A gates, disregard it and check your boarding pass.

Always check your boarding pass. With Concourse A closed and New Horizon work continuing, gate assignments at BNA shift more than at a settled airport.

Security and TSA Screening at BNA

BNA's security is one of the simplest arrangements of any large U.S. airport.

One central checkpoint sits in the Grand Lobby on Level 3, expanded to as many as 24 lanes as part of the BNA Vision rebuild. TSA PreCheck and CLEAR are both available.

It opens at around 3:30 a.m. daily, with closing following the last departures.

The advantage of a single checkpoint: you clear security once and reach every gate. There is no risk of choosing the wrong line and ending up cut off from your concourse.

The trade-off: everyone funnels through the same place, so when a wave of departures builds, so does the queue. Early mornings are the heaviest.

Local peak periods worth planning around: CMA Fest in early June, weekend bachelorette traffic from roughly April through October, Titans home game weekends, and the major holidays. Nashville's event calendar is unusually busy, and it shows up at the checkpoint.

Trusted traveler programmes. BNA has a TSA PreCheck enrollment office on Level 1, and Global Entry interviews are available at the enrollment centre on Level 1 inside the International Arrivals Facility.

Airport Lounges at BNA

BNA's lounge coverage is thinner than its passenger numbers suggest — there is no Centurion Lounge, no Capital One Lounge, and no Plaza Premium here.

The Delta Sky Club is the largest, following a 2023 renovation that added over 10,000 square feet and brought seating to nearly 200.

The Priority Pass point matters. BNA's only Priority Pass option is Minute Suites — private rest suites rather than a buffet-and-bar lounge. Members get one hour free, with additional time charged. If you were counting on a traditional Priority Pass lounge here, plan differently.

The good news: because all open concourses connect after security, you can reach any lounge from any gate. A Delta flyer can walk to Minute Suites in Concourse D; an American flyer can reach the Admirals Club from anywhere.

When Concourse A reopens in 2028, it is planned to include a new, larger Admirals Club.

Nashville Airport Parking Map

BNA has roughly 12,000 parking spaces across its garages and economy lots, all run by the Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority.

Terminal Garages 1 and 2

Both garages are covered, multi-level, and attached directly to the terminal — no shuttle needed.

They charge $4 per 20 minutes with the first 20 minutes free, capping at $26 a day.

Pick the right one:

Terminal Garage 1 — closest to the north side, for Concourses A and B. Valet is on its ground floor.

Terminal Garage 2 — closest to the south side, for Concourses C, D, and the T Gates. It also connects to the Ground Transportation Center for rideshare pickup.

The free first 20 minutes makes the garages genuinely useful for a quick drop-off.

Economy Lots B and C

The Economy Lots are open-air self-park at a flat $16 a day, with a free shuttle running 24 hours a day, every 10 to 15 minutes.

Budget 20 to 30 minutes from parking your car to reaching your gate. On a five-day trip the Economy Lot saves you $50 against the garages.

Both lots have accessible shuttle vehicles for travelers using wheelchairs or mobility devices.

Valet Parking

Valet operates from the ground floor of Terminal Garage 1 at $40 a day — the fastest in-and-out option, and the most expensive.

Cell Phone Lot

Free. Wait there until your passenger is at the curb rather than circling the terminal.

BNA Parking Rates at a Glance

Pre-book, especially for events. The Economy Lots are consistently the first to fill during CMA Fest week, bachelorette-weekend surges, Titans home games, and holiday weekends. If you are travelling in one of those windows, reserve ahead or have a backup.

Allow extra drive time. The Donelson Pike relocation is ongoing through 2028 and causes periodic detours on the approach roads. Check traffic before you set off.

Rental Car Counters

Rental car counters are on Level 1 of the terminal, alongside the WeGo bus stop and the taxi and rideshare pickup areas. Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz, National, Sixt, and Thrifty all serve BNA.

Rental Car Return

Follow the signs for rental car return as you approach the airport, then head up to Level 3 for departures. Because the roadways around BNA are being reshaped by the Donelson Pike project, allow extra time and follow current signage rather than your satnav's memory of the old layout.

Ground Transportation

Everything loads from Level 1: taxis, rideshares, hotel shuttles, and the WeGo bus. Parking shuttles pick up from Level 2, near baggage claim.

The Hilton BNA Nashville Airport Terminal hotel connects directly to the terminal, with its entrance on Level 2 — genuinely useful for early departures or long layovers.

Getting To and From Nashville Airport

WeGo Route 18. Nashville's public transit route 18 runs between BNA and the Elizabeth Duff Transit Center at WeGo Central downtown. It is an express service taking roughly 20 minutes for about $2 — comfortably the cheapest way into the city.

The bus stop is on Level 1. It runs on a fixed schedule, so check timings if you have an early or late flight.

Driving. Downtown is about 8 miles via I-40, typically 15 to 20 minutes outside peak hours.

Taxi. A flat rate of roughly $30 applies to downtown.

Rideshare. Uber and Lyft take 15 to 25 minutes to downtown, usually $20 to $35. Pickup is on Level 1, with access via Terminal Garage 2.

Hotel shuttles. Numerous airport-area hotels run courtesy shuttles from Level 1.

A note on rail: Nashville has no rail link to the airport. The Route 18 bus, a rideshare, or a car are your options.

The Critical Tip

Eat after security, not before. BNA has essentially one café landside, plus a convenience store and a flower shop. That is it.

This is the opposite of the usual advice, and it catches people out constantly. If you arrive two hours early hoping for a leisurely pre-flight meal, you will find nothing worth eating until you clear the checkpoint.

Once you are through, the T Gates area and the central marketplace have the widest selection, and Concourse C has the strongest line-up of Nashville names.

Live Music

BNA runs a live music programme with local performers on stages inside the terminal. It is a genuine point of difference — this is the only major U.S. airport where a delay might come with a decent set from a working Nashville musician.

BNA's retail leans local in the same way its food does. You will find:

The central marketplace near the T Gates and the Grand Lobby has the densest concentration.

Passenger Services and Amenities

Accessibility at Nashville Airport

BNA's single-checkpoint, single-terminal design works well for travelers with accessibility needs — there is one security queue and no trains to navigate.

Wheelchair assistance. Arrange this with your airline when you book, or ask at the ticket counter on Level 3. Airlines provide service from check-in through security to the gate, and from arrival to baggage claim.

No level changes between security and most gates. Once through the Grand Lobby checkpoint on Level 3, the concourses run on the same level. That is a meaningful advantage over airports where you descend to a train.

The C Satellite is the exception. Gates C4 to C11 require the shuttle bus from near Gate C2. If you have mobility needs and your gate is in the satellite, allow considerably more time, and ask staff for assistance at the shuttle point.

Economy Lot shuttles are accessible for travelers using wheelchairs or mobility devices. MNAA recommends allowing extra time if you need boarding assistance.

Accessible parking is available in both Terminal Garages, which is the better option if walking distance matters — you park and walk straight in with no shuttle.

Quiet spaces. BNA has designated quiet zones and a meditation room, useful if the Grand Lobby's live music and open acoustics are overwhelming.

Roadway construction. The Donelson Pike relocation means changing traffic patterns. If you are being dropped off and need a predictable route, check current conditions before you set out.

Nashville Airport Baggage Claim Map

Baggage claim at BNA is on Level 2. Follow the signs down from your concourse and check the screens for your carousel.

Curbside pickup, the economy lot shuttle station, and the Hilton BNA hotel entrance are all on this level. Rental cars, taxis, rideshare, and the WeGo bus are one level further down on Level 1.

Domestic Arrivals

Walk from your gate to Level 2 and collect your bags. Because BNA has a single terminal, anyone meeting you comes to one building.

International Arrivals

International flights are processed through the International Arrivals Facility, built as part of the BNA Vision programme. You clear U.S. Customs and Border Protection there, collect your bags, and continue out.

Global Entry interviews are available at the enrollment centre on Level 1 inside the same facility.

If you are connecting onward, re-check your bags and clear the central checkpoint again. Allow at least three hours for an international-to-domestic connection — and add more if your onward gate is in the C Satellite.

Lost and Found

For items left on the plane, contact your airline directly. For items left at the security checkpoint, file a claim with TSA. Anything else lost in the terminal goes to the airport's Lost and Found through flynashville.com. Report it as soon as you notice.

The most important current fact about BNA. Concourse A is being demolished and rebuilt, and it will not reopen until July 2028. Any guide, map, or memory that puts your gate in Concourse A is out of date. Go by your boarding pass.

Eat After Security

BNA has almost nothing landside — one café, a convenience shop, a flower shop. All the Nashville hot chicken, the honky-tonk bars, and the good coffee are past the checkpoint. Get through security first, then eat.

Check Whether Your Gate Is in the C Satellite

Gates C4 to C11 are in a separate satellite building reached by a free shuttle from near Gate C2. Everything else at BNA is walkable. If your boarding pass shows one of those gates, add 10 to 15 minutes.

Match Your Garage to Your Concourse

Terminal Garage 1 for the north side (Concourses A and B). Terminal Garage 2 for the south side (Concourses C, D, and the T Gates). Both cost the same, so there is no reason to pick the wrong one.

Watch the Nashville Event Calendar

This matters more here than at most airports. CMA Fest in early June, Titans home weekends, and the April-to-October bachelorette-party surge all fill the airport and its parking lots. Book parking ahead and allow extra time in those windows.

How Early to Arrive

Arrive 2 hours before a domestic flight and 3 hours before an international one. Add 20 to 30 minutes if you are parking in an Economy Lot, and more during a major event weekend.

Also allow extra driving time for the Donelson Pike roadworks, which continue through 2028.

Stay Connected to the Terminal

The Hilton BNA Nashville Airport Terminal opened in 2024 and connects directly to the building on Level 2. For a 5 a.m. departure or a long overnight connection, it removes the shuttle from the equation entirely.

What's Changing at BNA

BNA completed BNA Vision in February 2024, delivering the Grand Lobby, the expanded security checkpoint, additional gates, the International Arrivals Facility, and the Hilton hotel.

It is now working through New Horizon, a $1.4 billion follow-up programme aimed at supporting 35 million passengers a year by 2033:

Flying from Nashville (BNA) to India

There are no nonstop flights between Nashville and India, so every journey involves at least one connection — and usually two.

How Your Route Will Work

Two stops is the norm from Nashville. Most itineraries connect first through a larger U.S. gateway — Newark, New York JFK, Chicago, Atlanta, Dallas/Fort Worth, or Washington Dulles — then onward through a European or Middle Eastern hub to India. Expect 26 to 34 hours of total travel.

One stop is sometimes possible through BNA's transatlantic service. Nashville has nonstop flights to London and Dublin, and connecting onward from either can remove a U.S. leg entirely. Dublin in particular is worth checking, since it also offers a return-journey advantage described below. Schedules are seasonal, so confirm for your dates.

Recommended Arrival Time at BNA

Arrive at least 3 hours before your first departure, even if that first leg is a short domestic hop, because you will be checking bags all the way through to India and international check-in takes longer.

Make it 3.5 hours during CMA Fest week, a Titans home weekend, or the December holidays — and add 20 to 30 minutes if you are parking in an Economy Lot.

Also factor in Donelson Pike construction on the drive in.

Most airlines close international check-in 60 minutes before departure. Missing that costs you the entire itinerary.

Baggage Transfer

Book the whole journey on one ticket wherever possible. On a single ticket your bags are normally checked straight through from Nashville to your final Indian city — which matters a great deal on a two-stop route.

Two things to confirm at the BNA counter before you walk away:

Look at the bag tag yourself. It should show your final destination — BOM, DEL, MAA, BLR, HYD, and so on — not just your first connecting airport.

Ask whether you need to collect and re-check anywhere. On two-stop routes with an airline change, you often will.

If you booked separate tickets, assume you will collect and re-check at every connection point and clear security again each time. On a Nashville-to-India routing that can mean doing it twice. Leave at least four hours per connection.

A Dublin note: if you route home via Dublin, the airport has U.S. preclearance facilities — you clear U.S. immigration in Ireland before boarding, and land in Nashville as a domestic arrival. That saves a real amount of time on the return leg.

Baggage allowance on India routes is often more generous than U.S. domestic rules. The allowance that applies is set by the airline operating your long-haul leg — check that carrier's rules, not the one flying you out of Nashville.

TSA Screening and What to Expect

You clear TSA security in Nashville at the single Grand Lobby checkpoint. A few things regularly catch out travelers heading to India:

Liquids in carry-on follow the 3-1-1 rule — containers of 3.4 ounces (100 ml) or less, in a single quart-sized bag. Anything larger goes in checked luggage.

Food gifts are common on India trips. Solid items are generally fine in carry-on, but anything spreadable or pourable — pickles, ghee, chutneys, syrups — counts as a liquid and belongs in a checked bag.

Powders over 12 ounces may trigger additional screening. Spices, protein powders, and supplements are easier checked.

Medication should stay in your carry-on in original labelled packaging, with a copy of the prescription for anything unusual.

TSA PreCheck and CLEAR are available at BNA and help with the Nashville leg. Neither applies at your international connecting airports.

International Travel Advice

Passport validity. Most airlines will not board you for India unless your passport is valid for at least six months beyond your arrival date, with two or more blank pages.

Visa. Nearly all U.S. travelers need a visa or e-Visa for India. Apply well in advance — the airline checks at the Nashville counter, and without one you will not be boarded.

OCI cardholders should carry both the OCI card and the passport it is linked to.

Layover length matters more on a two-stop route. Aim for 2.5 to 3 hours minimum at each international connecting hub. With two connections, one early delay unravels everything downstream — so build the slack into your first leg out of Nashville.

Severe weather season. Middle Tennessee sees significant thunderstorm and severe-weather activity in spring, particularly March through May, and it can produce ground stops at BNA. If you are travelling then, a morning departure with a generous connection window is far safer than a tight afternoon turn.

Winter ice. Nashville does not get heavy snow, but ice storms happen and the region handles them less routinely than northern cities. Build in buffer if you are flying in January or February.

Arrival in India. Have your visa, your address in India, and your return ticket details ready for immigration.
