Flying through Detroit soon? A clear airport map can make your whole trip easier. Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW) is one of the biggest and busiest airports in the Midwest. In 2025 it welcomed about 33.4 million travelers, up slightly from the year before, and it is consistently rated one of the best big airports in North America — J.D. Power ranked it second in the U.S. for passenger satisfaction in 2025, behind only Minneapolis–St. Paul. It is also one of Delta Air Lines' largest hubs.

DTW has two passenger terminals and four concourses spread across a large space. With so many gates, it is easy to feel lost the first time you visit. That is why a good Detroit DTW airport map is so helpful. This guide walks you through every terminal, gate, and key service. By the end, you will know exactly where to go before you even arrive.

Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW) Overview

Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport sits in Romulus, Michigan. It is about 20 miles southwest of downtown Detroit. You can reach it easily from I-94 and I-275.

DTW is served by around 18 airlines. Delta Air Lines is the largest by far. Its SkyTeam partners — Air France, KLM, Aeromexico, and WestJet — also fly from here. Other airlines include Southwest, American, United, Air Canada, Alaska, JetBlue, Frontier, and Lufthansa. Together they reach more than 125 nonstop destinations across North America, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East.

2026 update — Spirit is gone: Spirit Airlines, long one of DTW's biggest low-cost carriers, ceased operations after its financial collapse and no longer flies from Detroit. If an older guide or booking still shows Spirit at the Evans Terminal, that information is out of date — check a different airline for low-cost fares.

Detroit Airport Map

A detroit airport map shows you the full layout at a glance. DTW has two terminals that sit on opposite sides of the airfield. The two buildings are not joined inside security. Instead, a free shuttle runs between them every 10 minutes, with a stop at the Westin hotel.

When you look at the map of Detroit airport, you will spot a few key zones:

  • McNamara Terminal (south side) — Concourses A, B, and C

  • Evans Terminal (north side) — Concourse D

  • Parking garages right next to each terminal

  • Ground Transportation Centers for taxis, rideshare, and rental cars

  • John Dingell Drive, the road that links both terminals

Tip: study the DTW map before you leave home. The terminals have separate highway exits, so knowing your terminal in advance saves real time and stress on the day you fly.

DTW Terminal Map

The DTW terminal map covers two buildings. Each one serves a different set of airlines. The simple rule is this: if you fly Delta or a SkyTeam partner, you use McNamara. If you fly any other airline, you use Evans. Let's look at both.

McNamara Terminal Map

The Edward H. McNamara Terminal opened in 2002. It is the larger of the two terminals and one of Delta's biggest hubs in the world. The dtw mcnamara terminal map shows three concourses — A, B, and C — with about 121 gates in total.

  • Concourse A: This is the centerpiece — nearly a mile long, the second-longest airport concourse in the world. It holds most of the gates (roughly A2 through A78), including the international gates. An elevated ExpressTram runs the length of Concourse A with three stations — South (A1–A28), Terminal (A29–A55), and North (A56–A78) — covering the whole concourse in about three minutes.

  • Concourse B and Concourse C: These smaller satellite concourses connect to Concourse A through an underground pedestrian tunnel. The famous 700-foot LED light tunnel, set to music, links them together — a DTW landmark and a great photo stop.

  • Delta operations: Delta and its SkyTeam partners (Air France, KLM, Aeromexico, WestJet) use all three concourses here.

  • On-site hotel: The Westin Detroit Metropolitan Airport Hotel connects directly to the terminal — ideal for long layovers or early flights.

Evans Terminal Map (Former North Terminal)

The Evans Terminal was once called the North Terminal. It opened in 2008 and was renamed in April 2022 to honor Wayne County Executive Warren Cleage Evans. So yes — the Evans Terminal and the old North Terminal are the same place.

The map of Detroit metro airport north terminal shows one concourse, Concourse D, with 29 gates. This terminal handles all non-Delta airlines, both domestic and international, including:

  • Southwest Airlines

  • American Airlines

  • United Airlines

  • Air Canada, Alaska, JetBlue, and Frontier

  • International carriers such as Lufthansa, Icelandair, Turkish Airlines, and Royal Jordanian

Gate layout: Gates run from D1 to D32, with a few numbers skipped. Because the terminal is compact, most gates are a short walk away — usually under 10 minutes from security.

Detroit Airport Delta Terminal Map

Delta is the star at DTW, so many travelers ask where it operates. Here is the quick answer.

  • Which terminal Delta uses: Delta flies from the McNamara Terminal.

  • Delta check-in: Delta's check-in counters are on the upper (Departures) level of McNamara, with self-service kiosks and bag-drop lines.

  • Delta gates: Delta uses gates across all three concourses — A, B, and C.

  • Delta Sky Club locations: McNamara has three Delta Sky Clubs, near gates A18, A38, and A68, so you are never far from one.

If you have a connecting Delta flight, the ExpressTram in Concourse A is your best friend. It can save you 10 to 15 minutes of walking.

Detroit Airport Gate Map

A dtw airport gate map helps you find your gate fast. Here is how the gates break down by terminal.

  • McNamara Terminal: Concourse A holds roughly gates A2 through A78 — the largest group. Concourses B and C hold the remaining gates, reached through the light-tunnel pedestrian walkway. Moving walkways and the ExpressTram make long distances easy.

  • Evans Terminal: Concourse D holds gates D1–D6, D8–D12, D14–D21, and D23–D32 — 29 gates in one easy-to-walk concourse.

Note: Most non-SkyTeam carriers use Evans. Always confirm your terminal with your airline before you travel, as gate and terminal assignments can change.

DTW Lounges

DTW has about eight lounges. The headline options:

  • Delta Sky Clubs (×3) in the McNamara Terminal, near gates A18, A38, and A68 — for Delta premium passengers, Sky Club members, and eligible Amex cardholders.

  • Lufthansa Lounge in the Evans Terminal (near gates D7–D8) for eligible Lufthansa and Star Alliance premium travelers.

  • Freedom Center in the Evans Terminal, a USO lounge for military members and their families.

Most lounges are tied to a premium ticket, membership, or credit card rather than a paid day pass, so check your eligibility before you rely on one.

Security at DTW: CT Scanners, PreCheck & CLEAR

DTW is one of the easier big airports for security. Its checkpoints use modern CT scanners, which means you can usually leave laptops and liquids in your bag — a real time-saver. TSA PreCheck and CLEAR lanes are available to speed things up further. In McNamara, you can choose between checkpoints on Level 2 and Level 3 for Concourse A, plus a separate checkpoint for Concourses B/C. Plan to arrive about 2 hours before a domestic flight and 3 hours before an international departure.

Detroit Airport Restaurants & Dining Map

You will not go hungry at DTW — the airport has more than 80 places to eat and drink.

  • Restaurants in McNamara: The widest choice, with sit-down spots (such as Cat Cora's Taproom), grab-and-go counters, and local favorites across all three concourses. The Central Link area near the light tunnel has the most variety.

  • Restaurants in Evans: Concourse D is smaller but still solid, with sit-down dining and quick meals — including Michigan staple National Coney Island near the gates.

  • Coffee shops: Both terminals have coffee near the busy gate areas, many opening around 5:00–5:30 a.m. for morning flights.

  • Fast food: Familiar quick-service brands are in both buildings for when you are short on time.

Hotels at DTW

The Westin Detroit Metropolitan Airport Hotel is built right into the McNamara Terminal, reachable without going outside — the most convenient choice for early departures, long layovers, or red-eye arrivals. Many more hotels nearby run free shuttles to the Ground Transportation Centers and are cheaper for longer stays.

Flying From Detroit to India + Connection Guide

Many Myflyyatra travelers fly between Detroit and India to visit family or for business. DTW does not have a nonstop to India, so every route connects through a hub — most often Amsterdam or Paris on Delta and its SkyTeam partners KLM and Air France, or through a Gulf or European hub on another airline.

Arriving back from India and connecting to a U.S. flight — the step-by-step. International flights into DTW are processed at the McNamara Terminal, so here is how the connection works:

  1. Deplane at McNamara and follow signs down to U.S. Customs and Border Protection on the lower level of Concourse A.

  2. Clear immigration. Global Entry or NEXUS speeds this up a lot; standard waits run from about 20 minutes to over an hour at busy times.

  3. Collect all your checked bags, even if they are tagged through.

  4. Clear Customs, then re-check your bags for your onward flight.

  5. Go to your departure gate. If your onward flight is also Delta or a SkyTeam partner, you stay inside McNamara — quick and easy. If it is on a different airline at the Evans Terminal, you must exit, take the free shuttle (allow 30+ minutes), and clear security again.

For an international-to-domestic connection within McNamara, plan about 2–2.5 hours; if you have to switch to the Evans Terminal, give yourself at least 3 hours, especially after a long flight from India.
