Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) is New England's main airport and one of the busiest in the country, handling more than 43 million passengers a year. It is Delta's transatlantic base in the Northeast and JetBlue's biggest focus city, and it carries most of the region's flights to Europe.

Logan has one advantage almost no other major U.S. airport can claim: it is close. Downtown Boston sits only about three miles away, across the harbor. For comparison, JFK is 15 miles from Manhattan and Newark is 16. You can be at your gate remarkably quickly from the city — as long as the access roads cooperate.

That closeness comes with a catch. Logan is squeezed onto roughly 1,700 acres, which is small for an airport this busy. The terminals sit around a single loop road, and that road jams up during rush hour. Knowing the BOS terminal map before you set out is genuinely worth the two minutes it takes.

Logan has four passenger terminals: A, B, C, and E. There is no Terminal D — it was absorbed into Terminal C years ago, which surprises a lot of first-time visitors.

Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) Overview

Airport Location and Layout

Logan sits in East Boston, right on the harbor. From downtown you reach it through the Ted Williams Tunnel, which connects to I-90. The drive is short but the roads back up badly between 7 and 9 in the morning and 4 to 7 in the evening.

Logan offers over 100 nonstop routes and more than 1,200 flights a day. The main carriers are Delta, JetBlue, American, and United, with over 30 international airlines serving Terminal E.

Understanding the BOS Airport Layout

The four terminals sit in a ring around a central roadway, with the parking garages in the middle. Each terminal has its own check-in desks, its own security, and its own baggage claim.

Here is who goes where:

Terminal A — Delta and WestJet

Terminal B — American, United, Alaska, Southwest, Spirit, Air Canada

Terminal C — JetBlue, plus Aer Lingus, Etihad, TAP Air Portugal and Cape Air

Terminal E — the international terminal, and the customs hall for every arriving international flight

Moving between terminals is where Logan has a quirk worth knowing.

Terminals B, C, and E are joined by walkways inside security. If you land at Terminal C and need Terminal E, you simply walk. No second screening, no shuttle.

Terminal A is the exception. It has no secure walkway to the others yet. To get from Terminal A to anywhere else after security, you must exit and go around outside. Massport is building an A-to-B post-security connector that will finally close this gap, but until it opens, plan around it.

Outside security, free Massport shuttle buses circle the airport around the clock, stopping at every terminal, the parking garages, the Rental Car Center, the Blue Line station, and the water taxi dock. They come every five to fifteen minutes.

How to Navigate BOS Efficiently

Here is the simple way to read the BOS gate map and move fast:

Confirm your terminal letter (A, B, C, or E). Your boarding pass has it.

If you are flying Terminal B, also check which side — the terminal splits east and west, with different airlines and different doors.

Park in Central Garage if you want flexibility, or your terminal's own garage if you want the shortest walk.

Check in and clear security at your terminal.

If you need another terminal after security, walk between B, C, and E. From Terminal A, you must go outside.

BOS Terminal Map Guide

The Logan Airport terminal map is easiest one letter at a time. Here is what each one holds.

Terminal A Map and Facilities

Terminal A belongs to Delta, with some WestJet flights. It is the newest-feeling of the domestic terminals and generally the calmest.

It comes in two pieces. The main building holds gates A1 to A11. A satellite building holds gates A12 to A21, and the two are joined by an underground pedestrian walkway. Check-in and two security checkpoints are on Level 2.

The thing to remember about Terminal A: there is no post-security walkway to the rest of the airport. If you are connecting from Terminal A to another terminal, you exit and take a shuttle around. Massport's planned A-to-B connector will fix this, but it is not open yet. Build in extra time for these connections.

Terminal B Map and Facilities

Terminal B is the busiest domestic terminal at Logan and the one people most often get lost in, because it is shaped like a U with airlines on both arms.

Get the side right before you arrive:

West side (doors B201–B206): American Airlines and Air Canada

East side (doors B207–B215): United, Southwest, Alaska, and Spirit

Check-in is on Level 2. There are two security checkpoints, one on each side. Go to the wrong one and you may have to walk back across the terminal, which is not a short trip.

Terminal B has three lounges — the Admirals Club, a United Club, and a Chase Sapphire Lounge by The Club. Pre-security food is thin, so eat after you clear the checkpoint rather than before.

A post-security walkway runs from gate B40 into Terminal C, so B and C passengers can move freely once inside.

Terminal C Map and Facilities

Terminal C is JetBlue's home base, and since JetBlue runs more flights at Logan than any other airline, this is the busiest terminal in the building. Aer Lingus, Etihad, TAP Air Portugal, and Cape Air also use it.

Check-in and curbside drop-off are on Level 2, with one main security checkpoint on the east side. After you clear it, the gates run to your left. Gates C5 to C10 sit in the stretch that connects toward Terminal E, and gates C12 to C22 form a separate concourse. Baggage claim is on the lower level.

Terminal C has The Lounge near gate C19, plus a USO lounge for active military. A new JetBlue lounge is expected to open here in 2026.

Terminal C is also getting a refresh through 2026 — a bigger hold room at Gate C10, a modernized security checkpoint, and updated restrooms.

Terminal E Map and Facilities

Terminal E is Logan's international terminal, and it just came through an $800 million rebuild. The new section is easy to spot from the air thanks to its bright red roof. The expansion added four gates, a sky-lit ceiling, solar glazing, and much larger customs facilities, and it earned LEED Gold certification.

More than 30 international airlines fly from Terminal E, including British Airways, Lufthansa, Emirates, Qatar Airways, Virgin Atlantic, Japan Airlines, Icelandair, Turkish Airlines, Air France, KLM, Swiss, and Aer Lingus. Check-in runs across Levels 2 and 3.

Terminal E is also the customs hall for the entire airport. Every international arrival at Logan clears U.S. Customs and Border Protection here, whichever terminal the flight was headed to. Lounges include the Emirates Lounge and the British Airways Galleries Lounge, and there are Global Entry kiosks in the arrivals area.

Knowing your terminal before you leave home saves time at Logan. Here is the quick guide. Assignments can change, so check your boarding pass.

Delta Air Lines Terminal at BOS

Delta flies from Terminal A, including the Delta Shuttle. WestJet also uses Terminal A.

JetBlue Terminal at BOS

JetBlue flies from Terminal C, its Boston base and the largest operation at the airport.

American Airlines Terminal at BOS

American flies from Terminal B, on the west side (doors B201–B206). The Admirals Club is on this side.

United Airlines Terminal at BOS

United flies from Terminal B, on the east side (doors B207–B215). The United Club is near gate B24.

Southwest, Alaska and Spirit Terminals at BOS

All three fly from Terminal B, east side.

International Airlines at BOS

Most foreign carriers use Terminal E. The exceptions worth knowing are Aer Lingus, Etihad, and TAP Air Portugal, which depart from Terminal C — though if you are arriving on any of them, you still clear customs in Terminal E.

Airport Lounges at BOS

Logan has around 13 lounges, and about half sell day passes.

Parking at Logan is expensive by national standards, so it is worth understanding your options before you drive in. Massport runs three public garages holding roughly 18,000 cars in total.

Central Parking Garage

The Central Garage sits in the middle of the terminal ring and is the most flexible choice. Level 4 pedestrian bridges connect it directly to all four terminals — A, B, C, and E — so you never need a shuttle.

The walk-up rate caps at $46 a day. The first hour is $10, which makes it reasonable for pickups.

Terminal B Garage

The Terminal B Garage is dedicated to Terminal B passengers. It charges the same $46 daily cap as Central. The only reason to choose it over Central is a slightly shorter walk if you are flying American, United, Southwest, Alaska, Spirit, or Air Canada.

Economy Parking Garage

The Economy Garage is the cheapest on-airport option at a $37 daily cap. A free Massport shuttle runs to all four terminals every 15 to 20 minutes, around the clock. On a five-day trip it saves about $45 over the Central Garage.

Book Ahead and Save

This is the most useful parking tip at Logan: Massport sells a limited pool of advance-reservation spaces at $29 a day across all three garages. That is $17 a day less than the walk-up rate at Central.

The catch is that these sell out roughly 10 to 14 days ahead during peak periods — Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year, Boston Marathon weekend, and summer. Book early or you lose the discount. There is no weekly rate at Logan, so a seven-day stay simply accrues the daily maximum.

Terminal E Parking Is Closed

The Terminal E surface lots have closed while Massport builds a new 5,000-space Terminal E garage, which is not expected to open until around 2028. If you are flying international, use Central Garage for the pedestrian bridge, the Economy Garage with the shuttle, or an off-airport lot.

Boston Logan Airport Car Rental Map

Logan's rental companies all share one building, which keeps things simple.

Rental Car Center

Every major brand — Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz, National, Sixt, Thrifty — operates from a single Rental Car Center on Transportation Way, just off the airport loop.

Free Massport shuttles run to the center from every terminal's lower level, around the clock. Look for the marked stop outside baggage claim.

Rental Car Return

Return your car at the same building and take the shuttle back to your terminal. Add roughly 30 minutes to your usual check-in time.

Ground Transportation

The lower level of each terminal is where you find shuttles, taxis, and hotel vans. Rideshare pickup at Logan is not always curbside — at Terminal B, for example, Uber and Lyft collect from Level 2 of the terminal garage, reached by pedestrian walkway. Follow the app's instructions and the posted signs rather than assuming.

Getting To and From Boston Logan

Logan is unusually well served by transit for a U.S. airport, and given parking prices, it is often the smarter option.

Silver Line SL1. This is the standout. The SL1 bus runs from every terminal to South Station in about 15 to 20 minutes, and it is free heading outbound from the airport. From South Station you connect to the Red Line and commuter rail. Hard to beat.

Blue Line. The MBTA Blue Line stops at Airport Station, reached by free Massport shuttle from each terminal. It takes you to Government Center, Bowdoin, and State Street in a few minutes for a low fare.

Logan Express. Buses run to Braintree, Framingham, Peabody, Woburn, and Back Bay. A good option if you are heading to the suburbs rather than downtown.

Water taxi. Logan has its own dock, and a harbor crossing to the waterfront is one of the more pleasant airport transfers anywhere. Take the free shuttle to the dock.

Driving. Downtown is about three miles through the Ted Williams Tunnel, but the airport loop and the tunnel approaches clog badly at rush hour. Allow far more time than the distance suggests.

Taxi and rideshare. Taxi stands operate outside each terminal 24 hours a day. Rideshare pickup points vary by terminal — check the app.

Boston Logan Airport Food Map

Logan's dining leans local, with a strong showing of Boston and New England names alongside the usual chains. Here is what the BOS food map looks like.

Dining in Terminal A

Terminal A has a reasonable spread of cafes, bars, and quick-service spots serving Delta passengers. It is the quietest terminal, which usually means shorter lines.

Dining in Terminal B

Terminal B has good options after security on both sides, including sit-down restaurants and bars. Before security there is very little — a Dunkin' on the east side and a Starbucks on the west. Do not plan to eat a real meal in the check-in hall.

Dining in Terminal C

Terminal C has the widest choice at Logan, with plenty of local Boston names and seafood spots. Because B, C, and E connect after security, this is a good terminal to wander into if you have time.

Dining in Terminal E

Terminal E serves long-haul international flights, so it has more sit-down restaurants and full bars, plus the airport's main duty-free shopping.

Tip: since the post-security walkways link B, C, and E, you can eat in a different terminal from the one you fly out of with no re-screening. Terminal A passengers do not have that option, so eat where you are.

Boston Logan Airport Baggage Claim Map

Baggage claim at Logan is on the lower level of your arrival terminal. Follow the signs down and check the screens for your carousel. Massport recently added new baggage handling equipment to speed things up.

Domestic Arrivals

For domestic flights, head down to the lower level of the terminal you landed in. Bags come out there, and ground transportation is on the same level outside.

International Arrivals

Every international arrival at Logan clears customs in Terminal E, no matter which airline you flew or which terminal the flight was scheduled for. You go through passport control, collect your bags, pass the customs inspection area, and exit into Terminal E's arrivals hall on the lower level.

If someone is meeting your international flight, tell them Terminal E. This trips up plenty of people picking up Aer Lingus or Etihad passengers, since those airlines depart from Terminal C but arrive through E.

Connecting onward? Re-check your bags after customs and clear security again. Allow at least three hours for an international-to-domestic connection.

Lost and Found

For anything left on the plane, contact your airline directly. For items lost elsewhere in the airport, contact Massport's Lost and Found. The sooner you report it, the better your odds.

Arriving at BOS During Peak Times

Logan's pinch point is not usually inside the terminal — it is the roads. The airport loop and the Ted Williams Tunnel back up hard during morning and evening rush hour, and a three-mile drive can take 40 minutes. If your flight leaves in those windows, take the Silver Line or the Blue Line instead.

Inside, the busiest stretches are early morning departures and the late-afternoon transatlantic bank out of Terminal E. Summer, Thanksgiving, the December holidays, and Boston Marathon weekend are the peak periods.

How Early to Arrive

Arrive 2 hours ahead for domestic flights and 3 hours for international. At Logan, though, judge your departure time by traffic rather than by the clock — leaving 30 minutes earlier can save you an hour of stress.

Get Terminal B's Side Right

Worth repeating because it costs people flights: Terminal B has two separate sides with two separate checkpoints. American and Air Canada are west. United, Southwest, Alaska, and Spirit are east. Check your door number before you get dropped off.

Remember Terminal A Stands Alone

Terminals B, C, and E connect after security. Terminal A does not. If you are connecting through Logan and one leg touches Terminal A, you will exit and re-clear security. Give that connection extra room until the new A-to-B connector opens.

Skip the Parking

Logan parking runs $37 to $46 a day, with no weekly discount. A week in the Central Garage costs $322. The free Silver Line to South Station makes driving hard to justify for most trips into the city. If you must drive, book an advance space at $29 a day at least two weeks out.

What's Changing at Logan

Massport has a modernization program running across the airport:

A-to-B connector — the final piece to link every terminal after security. In planning and design.

Terminal E garage — a new 5,000-space garage, expected around 2028. The Terminal E surface lots are closed meanwhile.

Terminal C — a bigger Gate C10 hold room, an upgraded checkpoint, and refreshed restrooms.

New lounges — a JetBlue lounge is expected in 2026.

Terminal B roadway — work is separating buses from cars to ease curbside congestion.

Kidports — the airport's play areas have been rebuilt and reopened.
