Eppley Airfield (OMA) is Nebraska's main airport and the front door to Omaha, Lincoln, Council Bluffs, and the surrounding region. It handles more than 5.2 million travelers a year and carries far more flights than every other airport in the state put together. In 2024 it set an all-time record of just over 5.27 million passengers.

For years, OMA had a reputation as one of the easiest airports in the country to use — small enough to walk across in a few minutes, close enough to downtown that you could leave your office and be at your gate inside half an hour.

Right now, that has changed temporarily, and it is the single most important thing to know before you fly.

Eppley is in the middle of Build OMA, a $950 million rebuild of the entire terminal. To make room for it, the airport has been split into two completely separate terminals — a North Terminal and a South Terminal. They do not connect inside. If you walk into the wrong one, you have to go back outside and cross to the other end of the building.

The split started in January 2025 and runs until the new Central Pavilion opens in 2027. So for now, knowing your airline and your terminal before you arrive is not just helpful at OMA — it is essential.

Omaha Eppley Airfield (OMA) Overview

Airport Location and Layout

Eppley Airfield sits about 3 miles northeast of downtown Omaha, on the west bank of the Missouri River. Four highways run close by — I-80, I-480, I-680, and Highway 75 — so most drives from the metro area take well under 20 minutes.

Eight airlines serve OMA: Alaska, Allegiant, American, Delta, Frontier, Southwest, Sun Country, and United. Southwest, Delta, and United together carry close to two-thirds of all passengers here.

Understanding the OMA Airport Layout

Normally Eppley is one long building with a check-in hall in the middle and a concourse at each end. During construction, the middle has been closed off, leaving the two ends working as separate airports.

Here is the layout as it stands today:

South Terminal — Concourse A, gates A1 to A10. Enter at Door 1. This side serves Alaska, American, Delta, and Frontier.

North Terminal — Concourse B, gates B11 to B19. Enter at Door 5. This side serves Allegiant, Southwest, Sun Country, and United. Gate B20 was removed to make room for construction.

Each terminal has its own ticket counters, its own security checkpoint, and its own baggage claim. There is no walkway between them inside the building.

To cross between the two terminals, you go outside and use the Terminal Drive walkways and center median, or the lower level of the South Garage. It is a short walk, but it is an outdoor one — worth knowing in a Nebraska January.

Both terminals use the same two levels. Level 1 is arrivals, baggage claim, and ground transportation. Level 2 is departures, ticketing, and security.

The one rule to remember at OMA right now: match your airline to Door 1 or Door 5 before you get out of the car. Everything else follows from that.

How to Navigate OMA Efficiently

Here is the simple way to read the OMA gate map and move fast:

Look up your airline and note whether it is North or South.

Flying Alaska, American, Delta, or Frontier? Head for the South Terminal and Door 1.

Flying Allegiant, Southwest, Sun Country, or United? Head for the North Terminal and Door 5.

Park in the matching garage or drop off along Terminal Drive.

Check in and clear security on Level 2 of your own terminal.

Walk to your gate — Concourse A gates run A1 to A10, Concourse B gates run B11 to B19.

If you are being dropped off in the South Garage, cross the center median and turn toward your door. Going right takes you to the South Terminal; going left takes you to the North Terminal.

Airport staff in vests are stationed around the building specifically to help people who end up on the wrong side. If you are unsure, ask — that is exactly what they are there for.

Here is what sits in each half of the airport.

South Terminal and Concourse A

The South Terminal is the Concourse A side, reached through Door 1. It has 10 gates, A1 through A10, and serves Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, and Frontier Airlines.

Ticketing and bag drop are on Level 2, along with the South Terminal's own security checkpoint. Baggage claim and ground transportation are down on Level 1.

Concourse A opened in 1986 and is the newer of the two concourses. It has a handful of food and drink spots plus a small selection of shops, though most of the airport's dining is still on the pre-security side while construction continues.

North Terminal and Concourse B

The North Terminal is the Concourse B side, reached through Door 5. Its gates run B11 through B19, and it serves Allegiant Air, Southwest Airlines, Sun Country Airlines, and United Airlines.

Gate B20 has been taken out of service to make way for the new construction.

Like the South side, ticketing and security are on Level 2, with baggage claim and ground transportation on Level 1. Concourse B is the older of the two, dating to 1970, and it was remodeled when Concourse A was added.

One useful detail: the rental car counters are in the Customer Service Building inside the North Garage, so the North Terminal is the closer side if you are picking up a car.

The New Terminal Coming in 2027 and 2028

Build OMA is the biggest change to Eppley Airfield in nearly forty years. The terminal is growing from about 375,000 square feet to roughly 646,000 — a 72% increase that nearly doubles the building.

Here is what the finished airport will have:

A Central Pavilion — a brand-new front entrance and the heart of the terminal, opening in 2027

One centralized TSA checkpoint replacing the two separate ones, so every gate is reachable from a single security line

A unified concourse joining Concourses A and B into one continuous walk

Two international gates plus a U.S. Customs and Border Protection arrivals hall — something Eppley has never had before

Ticketing moved up to Level 2, right next to the new checkpoint

19 new restaurants and shops run by Hudson Group and Plum Market, with 16 of them past security

Bigger gate areas with more seating and far more charging ports

More restrooms, including family restrooms, companion care rooms, and nursing rooms

A new baggage handling system

That dining change is bigger than it sounds. Today about 80% of the food at OMA sits before security. When the work is done, roughly 80% will be past the checkpoint — which is where travelers actually want it.

Where the project stands: as of spring 2026 it passed the halfway mark. The Central Pavilion has been rebuilt and connected to the new concourse, the glass front along Terminal Drive is now in place, the new gate areas are taking shape with wall tile and wood ceilings, and work on the ticketing hall and baggage system is underway. The airport has said phases will start opening through 2027, with the full program finishing in 2028.

This matters more at OMA than at almost any other airport right now, because picking the wrong door means walking back outside and around. Here is the guide. Assignments can shift during construction, so always confirm with your airline before you leave.

Airport Lounges at OMA

Worth being straight about this: Eppley Airfield has no airline lounges. There is no Delta Sky Club, no United Club, no Admirals Club, and no pay-in lounge like Priority Pass or The Club.

For an airport of Omaha's size that is normal, but it does mean you should plan your wait around a restaurant or a gate seat rather than a lounge. If you have status or a lounge card, save it for your connecting airport.

The new terminal is adding much larger gate areas with more seating and charging ports, which will help, but no lounge has been announced.

Omaha Airport Parking Map

Parking at OMA is run by the airport itself under the name ParkOMA, with around 10,000 spaces across roughly eight options. Prices are low compared with bigger airports, and every dollar goes back into the airport rather than to an outside operator.

Premier Parking

Premier is the closest and quickest option, on Level 3 of the South Garage. It has its own express ramp entrance, covered spaces, EV chargers, and green-and-red lights above each space showing where the openings are. Expect a flat rate around $32 a day, and you can reserve online.

South Garage

The South Garage covers Levels 2 through 5 and connects to the terminal by enclosed skywalks — so you stay indoors. Rates run roughly $1.50 per 20 minutes, capping around $24 a day.

Handy detail from the construction work: if you park on Level 3 of the South Garage, it is only about a 75-yard walk across a bridge straight into the security checkpoint.

North Garage

The North Garage covers Levels 3 through 5 with a similar setup — covered parking, an enclosed skywalk, and space-availability lights. Rates are about the same as the South Garage, roughly $24 a day maximum.

The North Garage is also where the rental car counters live, in the Customer Service Building.

Rooftop Parking

The open top levels of the garages cost less — around $12 a day — while still putting you within a short walk of the terminal. A good middle option when the covered levels are full.

Economy Lots

The Economy Lots are the cheapest way to park at Eppley, at roughly $6 to $7 a day, with a free shuttle to the terminal. The South Economy Lot is also where oversized vehicles are usually directed.

At those rates, a full week costs less than two days in Premier. For any trip longer than a couple of days, this is the obvious choice.

Cell Phone Lots

Free, with lots north and south of the terminal building. Wait there until your passenger is ready, then drive up. ParkOMA also offers free jump starts and tire inflation if you come back to a car that will not start — a nice touch in a city with real winters.

OMA Parking Rates at a Glance

Rates were current in 2026 and can change. ParkOMA has a rate estimator on flyoma.com that prices your exact dates, and booking online usually beats the drive-up rate. EV charging is available in the North Garage on Level 3.

Winter tip: if you are flying between December and March, pay the extra for a covered garage level. Coming back to a car buried in snow and ice after a week away is a miserable way to end a trip.

Rental cars at OMA are close by and easy to reach — no long shuttle ride.

Rental Car Counters

All the counters sit together in the Customer Service Building inside the North Garage, which is connected to the terminal. Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz, National, and Thrifty all operate here.

Because the counters are on the North side, they are a short walk from the North Terminal and a longer one from the South Terminal. During the split, allow extra time if you are landing on the South side and need a car.

Rental Car Return

Return your car at the same facility in the North Garage, then walk to your terminal — remembering to head for Door 1 or Door 5 depending on your airline.

Ground Transportation

Ground transportation is on Level 1. One important change during construction: rideshare pickup and taxis have moved into the ground floor of the South Garage, Section D3, at the far west end.

To find it, exit the terminal from Level 1, follow the signs on the center median for Ride App Pickup and Taxis, and walk into the South Garage. It is not where most people expect it to be, so watch for the signs rather than looking for a curbside pickup lane.

Getting To and From Omaha Airport

Driving. Downtown Omaha is only about 3 miles away and usually 10 to 15 minutes by car. The airport sits close to I-80, I-480, I-680, and Highway 75, so most of the metro is a quick run.

Taxi and rideshare. Both now pick up in Section D3 on the ground floor of the South Garage. Because the distance downtown is short, fares are modest.

Metro Transit Route 16. Omaha's public bus route 16 connects the airport with downtown for a low fare. It is slower than a car but a cheap option if you are travelling light.

Hotel shuttles. Many hotels near the airport run courtesy shuttles from Level 1.

A note for the region: Eppley draws travelers from across eastern Nebraska and western Iowa, and there is no rail link. Nearly everyone drives, which is why the parking options and the cell phone lots matter more here than at a big-city airport with a train station.

Omaha Airport Food Map

Dining at OMA is limited right now, and it is fair to say so plainly. Construction has taken out part of the old central food court, and roughly 80% of what remains sits before security.

Here is what that means in practice.

Eat Before You Go Through Security

This is the opposite of the advice at most airports, but at Eppley today it is the right call. The pre-security areas of both terminals hold most of the coffee, sandwiches, and sit-down options. Once you are through the checkpoint, choices thin out considerably.

Dining in the South Terminal

Concourse A has a small cluster of food and drink options past security, enough for a coffee and a snack before a short flight.

Dining in the North Terminal

Concourse B has a similar handful of options. Both concourses cover the basics, but neither is a place to plan a real meal around.

What Is Coming

This is the part that changes everything. The new terminal brings 19 new restaurants and shops, with 16 of them past security — flipping the ratio so about 80% of the food will be where travelers actually want it. Hudson Group and Plum Market took over the concessions in January 2025 and are opening new locations as each construction phase finishes.

Tip for now: you cannot cross between the North and South Terminals inside the building, so you cannot walk to the other side for better food. Eat on your own side, and eat before security.

Domestic Arrivals

Head down to Level 1 of the terminal you landed in. The South Terminal has its own carousels for Alaska, American, Delta, and Frontier. The North Terminal has its own for Allegiant, Southwest, Sun Country, and United.

Because the two claim areas are separate, tell anyone picking you up which terminal you are arriving at, not just "the airport." Meeting at the wrong end means a walk back outside and around.

Rideshare and taxi pickup is in Section D3 on the ground floor of the South Garage, so if you are landing on the North side, allow a few extra minutes to walk over.

International Arrivals

Eppley Airfield does not currently handle scheduled international arrivals, and there is no U.S. Customs and Border Protection facility in the terminal today. If you are flying to Omaha from abroad, you will clear customs at your U.S. entry airport — somewhere like Chicago, Dallas, Denver, or Minneapolis — and arrive at OMA as a domestic passenger.

That is changing. The new terminal includes two international-capable gates and a CBP international arrivals hall, which will let Eppley take direct international flights for the first time.

Lost and Found

For items left on the plane, contact your airline directly. For items left at a security checkpoint, file a claim with TSA. Anything lost elsewhere in the terminal goes to the airport's Lost and Found through flyoma.com. Report it as soon as you notice.

Know Your Door Before You Leave Home

How Early to Arrive

Arrive about 90 minutes to 2 hours before a domestic flight. OMA is small and security lines are usually short, but the split terminal has added confusion, so give yourself a cushion. If you are parking in an Economy Lot and taking the shuttle, add another 20 minutes.

Use the QR Code Signs

The Find Your Way at OMA signs are genuinely useful during construction. Scan one with your phone and you get a live interactive map showing your location and the fastest route to your gate, your bag claim, or the rental cars. The flyOMA app does the same.

Park on Level 3 of the South Garage

Small tip, real payoff. From Level 3 of the South Garage it is about a 75-yard walk across the bridge straight into the security checkpoint. That is one of the shortest car-to-checkpoint walks at any airport in the region.

Plan Around Winter

Omaha winters are serious, and the terminal split means you may be walking outside between the two halves. Dress for it, allow extra time for de-icing delays, and pay for covered parking if you can. The enclosed skywalks from the North and South Garages keep you indoors, which is worth a few dollars in January.

Eat Before Security

Backwards compared to most airports, but correct at Eppley today. Most of the food is still pre-security while the new concessions are built out. Grab something before you go through the checkpoint.
